Granada Hills is located about 21 miles north of downtown Los Angeles and is within 10 to 15 miles of the busy movie and television centers of Burbank and Hollywood. Thanks to its location near major roadways including Highway 118, Interstate 5, the 405 Freeway and the 210 Freeway, residents have easy access to all of the Los Angeles Basin as well as the outlaying areas of Ventura, San Bernardino, Orange and Riverside counties.

Students are served by the Los Angeles Unified School District. While scores vary, most of the schools in Granada Hills score well above average in statewide testing. Granada Hills real estate in California Schools in the city include: Elementary -- Danube Avenue School, El Oro Way School, Granada Elementary School, Haskell School, Knollwood School, Tulsa Street School and Van Gogh Street School. Middle Schools: Patrick Henry, George K. Porter and Robert Frost. Senior High Schools: Granada Hills and John F. Kennedy. Granada Hills is close to Cal State University Northridge, the premiere educational facility in the San Fernando Valley. There are several other community colleges, four-year colleges and universities within a short drive.

The Granada Hills real estate market is overwhelmingly made up of single-family homes. Real estate prices vary depending on location, amenities and lot size. Some large luxury estates offer scenic views and feature swimming pools and multiple fireplaces.

When it comes to recreation, there are plenty of choices. For golfers, Knollwood Country and Porter Valley Country Club offer championship courses with all of the amenities. The Granada Hills Recreation Center is a state-of-the-art park facility newly renovated in 1999. It offers four baseball diamonds, picnic areas and a new multi-purpose center/gym with complete kitchen facilities as well as a refreshing swimming pool. The Department of Parks and Recreation also offers an abundance of classes and workshops including arts and crafts, dog obedience, gymnastics, pre-school, self defense, summer camp, a teen club, guitar, harmonica, baseball, basketball, softball, soccer, ice skating and sports clinics.

If nature is more your style, O'Melveny Park -- the second largest park in the city of Los Angeles at 672 acres - is located in Granada Hills. The park offers nature and bike riding trails and much, much more.

There are numerous medical facilities in the community including Granada Hills Community Hospital, a two hundred plus bed hospital with emergency services; and three major convalescent hospitals. Holly Cross and Northridge hospitals are located nearby.

The original name selected for this division of the San Fernando Valley was "Granada" or "Town of Granada" named for its sister city -- Granada Spain. But the U.S. Postal Service rejected the name as it conflicted with an already existing town with the same name. So, in 1927 Granada Hills was officially named. The community continues to offer good schools, affordable real estate and a high quality of life to its residents.
